The Dubrovnik Cable Car

Aug 11 , 2011

Dubrovnik Cable Car is an extremely popular attraction because of the gorgeous views when you reach the peak. The short ride rewards you with a breathtaking landscape of mainland, islands and ocean. You can even get a bite to eat at a restaurant built with the views in mind before heading back down.

History

The Dubrovnik Cable Car dates back to 1969, when it was constructed to give visitors breathtaking views of the Old City, the blue expanse of the Adriatic Sea, and the many islands that dot the area. Since that time, literally millions of people have enjoyed a journey on the Dubrovnik Cable Car. You can see almost 40 miles if you ride the cable car on a clear day. Although this attraction causes a bit of reluctance in people with fears of heights, the cable cars are a very safe way to enjoy an amazing panorama.

Specifications

The Dubrovnik Cable Car has two cabins, each of which accommodates 30 passengers. The cars ascend to the upper station, a 778 meter trip, in less than four minutes. Your journey ends 405 meters above sea level at an observation area with three terraces, including binoculars you can use for close-up views. The top area of the Dubrovnik Cable Car station also has restrooms, including handicap-accessible facilities.

Restaurants, Shops, and Souvenirs

The Dubrovnik Cable Car is the main attraction, but you'll also find a restaurant with a breathtaking panoramic view once you reach the top of the cable car's run. Visit this attraction when you're hungry so you can enjoy authentic Dalmatian dishes and Mediterranean cuisine while you relax and look out at the ocean, Old City, and Lokrum Island.

Commemorate your ride on the Dubrovnik Cable Car by picking up a souvenir at the convenient shop. Buy something that will remind you of your trip, and pick up a tasty treat, too, like sugared orange peels or regional olive oil.
